Also, a mashup of 2009 top 25 billboard hits. Cool, I'd listen to this for itself. Previous years were not as cool, at least partly because Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani really didn't fit in.

yuletide 2009 reveal!
Life was such that I could only write the one main story this year. This was the first time I didn't do a pinch hit or an extra story as a gift and I was a bit sad about that, but there was literally no way I could do another story, although I thought about it. Anyhoo, my story:
Shades of Mars
24, Jack/Tony, Adult, +4,500 words.
Written for
savageseraph
With a big thank you to
kadymae for the last minute beta.
Spoilers for Day 7 and Day 3; No spoilers for the upcoming season.
( Jack/Tony 4eva! story blather )

I've got a few days off and so I'm visiting my family again, which is really nice. :D
I hope everyone here had a good start into 2010!
A tale from work: Yesterday I had a customer who really looked a bit like Anthony Stewart Head. (Not so that you couldn't tell them them apart, but the resemblance was really there) which of course I realized at once.
What I only realized a few hours later: My customer's family name? Was "Haupt". Which is a German word for "head".

The first day of the new year was spent in front of the computer and on the couch with watching the second competition of the Four Hills Tournament (ski jumping). Wohoo. We also played Farmville on Facebook. Um.
And we had dinner at my mom's place.
At the moment
saba1789's sitting on the couch squeeing and fangirling. She's watching a Fall Out Boy concert thingy on MTV. She's so cute when she's in squee mode! :-D
And we're finally drinking sparkling wine. Even though I have two bottles, we couldn't drink any, because I don't have a corkscrew. So much fail on my part! I borrowed one from my mom.
I hope everyone had a great start into the new year! Also, Happy Birthday, Colin Morgan. :-D

It's Reveal Time!
For DSSS I wrote The Hypotenuse of a Right Triangle for
exeterlinden's awesome prompt about looking at gender issues wrt Stella and RayK. I wrote PG-13 rated AU casefic where Stella is a detective, RayK is the asst. state's attorney, Vecchio is Stella's partner, Fraser is facing rather different consequences of Victoria's Secret, and Welsh is Welsh. HUGE thanks to
china_shop for the beta! If any part of this story works at all, it's due to her.
For Yuletide I wrote A Mystery Rite of Irkalla. It's a riff on ancient Sumerian myth in the style of the source material, which is one of the many excellent possibilities
quillori mentioned in her request -- her prompts were so GOOD! I wish I'd begun rereading Sumerian lit sooner because I might have managed to do more stories. I offered it as a fandom because I remembered enjoying it many, many years ago and one of my women's groups recently did a thing on Inana, so it was fresh in my mind. But I started digging deeper in the online trove of myths and fell head over heels. SUCH A JOY, OMG! (Yes, I own my geekery. :P)
I was extremely lucky with both my recipients this holiday season. ALL the prompts were fabulous and in their feedback each recipient seemed to get what I was trying to do with what I wrote. This is a relief especially because the DSSS story & Yuletide poem pretty much lack the fan-friendly tropes that automatically get lots of squeeful comments. What matters is I got to do something in each case that I never otherwise would have imagined writing AND the recipients liked how they turned out! Yay!
( 2009 Year in Review )
( the questions! )
May 2010 bring all of us lots of inspiration, talent, skill, good words, and satisfying writing and creative work! Also, health, happiness, prosperity, and excellent luck!! HAPPY NEW YEAR! ♥

I am running off soon to see Sherlock Holmes (woo!), but here are the three things I wrote for
yuletide:
A Veneer Upon the Surface -- This was my original assignment. I actually matched on "The Black Stallion" series of books, but the prompt didn't immediately make me go "oooh!", so I spent some time rereading the books, and picked up "Appaloosa" at the library at the same time. And really, the slash writes itself. Except for the part where it's a pain in the ass when the characters talk but don't actually say anything.
Wait Wait Don't Eat Me -- I saw this pinch hit go by, and thought "No, I am not crazy enough to pick up a pinch hit. I don't have the time." And then I wrote the story anyway. It helped immensely that I just spent the past few weeks at work listening to 6 months of "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" podcasts.
Soul-Hurting Magic -- Browsing through the Yuletide Madness prompts, I saw this one for Barbara Hambly's Windrose Chronicles. I've asked for a story about Zake Brighthand for the past few years (but not this year), so when I saw the prompt, I wrote this drabble.
Happy New Year, y'all! May it better than the last.

Yuletide authors are now live! I wrote To Watch the Sun Go Down - Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci series. I've been in love with this universe since I was about 9 years old, but it was more difficult than I expected to write within it. I wasn't entirely happy with the story I uploaded by deadline, and I actually ended up completely rewriting the second half of the story and updating it before the archive opened. Yay for self-editing!!!
Also I'm shocked! Shocked I say! To see that
ellen_fremedon is the writer of the awesome Lord Peter Wimsey/Doctor Who crossover. *G*

Useful geeky resources mostly for web geeks of various kinds, but there's some useful photo and password stuff, etc. of general interest.
Speaking of web geeks, Clients from Hell web design clients from hell. Some of these are just... o_O
Alleged business plan fail I dunno, this looks like it could be fun.
Church store fail oh dear.

Comical legal case names "United States v. Approximately 64,695 Pounds of Shark Fins, No. 05-56274 (9th Cir. Mar. 17, 2008)." must be amazing.
And if that's not enough government fun, here's the Government comics collection!
